PLC_BooksRemember: The very essence of a learning community is a focus on and a commitment to the learning of each student (Dufour, Dufour and Eaker, p. 15).
Share a vision and a mission for your Professional Learning Community here.
An effective PLC mission is driven by a common vision, and this vision is vital to formation of a successful PLC. Other vital ingredients include:

  • Collaborative culture focused on student learning
  • Clear direction that responds to a shared mission and purpose
  • Shared values and goals with indicators, timelines and learning targets (p. 15).

Vision: My vision is that teachers will collaborate to make classrooms a safe space for learning for students. Teachers will create a learning space for students to succeed through exploration and sharing of ideas with peers and teachers. Students will be able to discuss discovered and new ideas with ownership of their learning. Mission: My mission is to provide educational opportunities in a safe environment that continuously supports a diverse student population. The mission is to enable all students to reach their full potential and to become lifelong learners through collaboration between teachers (school staff), students, and families. Students are provided with necessary materials and support to develop understanding of concepts.

My mission is to guide teachers in serving the needs of individuals in our community by developing continuous learners who will be successful in meeting the challenges of functioning in our society today and in the future. I will lead and inspire teachers to embrace and educational environment where productive struggle is encouraged among students, as well as themselves. My vision is for teachers to collaborate with each other in whatever manner works for them so that they can gradually take their teaching into the 21st century. I envision environments where teachers and students are inspired by the tools available to them, and are willing to try new things, and can critique them with a true evaluation that is not rooted in fear, but in productive struggle.

I strive to bring my passion for teaching to the classroom by being energetic and enthusiastic. My goal is to provide students with a supportive learning environment and lessons filled with student centered meaningful activities that will help develop both their math and language skills. It is crucial to create a safe learning environment. I also believe social interaction plays a powerful role in learning.I strive to teach valuable life skills while encouraging students to develop their own mathematical abilities. I believe that I empower my students to reach new levels by keeping materials relevant to their individual lives and making learning interesting by relating the content to real world scenarios. I feel I am constantly growing as an educator and adapting my mission statement and philosophy to the changing needs of my students.

Cara, I strongly agree with your statements about providing a supportive learning environment. Students may have difficult home life situations and it is our job to make them feel safe when they are in our classroom. A fun, hands on lesson could be they key to keeping their mind occupied and keeping them engaged. As a new teacher I am constantly assessing and changing my lessons and approaches. I think as good educators we need to constantly adapt our mathematical material to real life examples and show students the value of a strong mathematical mind while also teaching them how to be a valuable member of society.

These values are the core of learning and are crucial for my students to be able to be successful in their young adult lives. My mission is to connect with students and help them realize their potential as individuals. They may struggle in certain areas, but helping them overcome some of their challenges will help build positive self esteem that will carry them through. I try to find ways to encourage and praise students, even when "times get tough" for them. If students know their teachers are on their side, care and respect them as people, and are truly there to help them, that connection between students and teachers will allow the students to feel comfortable in the classroom and meet with as much success as possible.

VISION: Overall success is what I envision. All teachers are inquiring about their students and how their practice plays a part in their academic, social, and behavioral success. As a grade level, subject group, and school we all work together to empower one another and help each other grow as scholars, educators, and individuals. Teachers are successful in their practice, and as a result students are successful in the classroom, causing our school to be successful as a whole! Behavior problems are at a minimum, while leadership and collaboration are transparent throughout the entire campus. Faculty, staff, and students love coming to our school because everybody matters and understands that education is powerful! MISSION: My mission is for teachers, staff, and students to work collaboratively towards creating and becoming a generation of life long learners, where we understand that there are no limits to the possibilities within each of us, just as long as we are willing to put forth the time and effort needed, in order for us all to become the greatest possible version of ourselves...inevitably becoming role models for generations to come!

I envision my students feeling more confident in what they have to offer to their peers and to the school as a whole. I want them to know that learning happens in different ways for everyone and that teacher are also learning too. Learning is growth once you put that knowledge to use. I find that sometimes ELLs feel like they have nothing to offer because they cannot put it into words that the teacher can understand. However, I want to reveal that ideas are good ideas or experiences are something to be shared in English or any other language. Those ideas or experiences can lead students to a place where they desire to learn more and take their place in a community where people thrive and succeed in learning together, no matter the obstacles they face.
